Set up the keyboard
- Open Settings › Apps › Akshar › Keyboards.
- Turn on Akshar, then turn on Allow Full Access.
- Anywhere you type, hold the globe key and choose Akshar.
Full Access is required so the keyboard can run its on-device transliteration model. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Set up dictation
- Open Akshar, tap the mic tile, then tap Set Up Dictation.
- Grant microphone and speech permission when asked.
- The speech model downloads once. It covers all 22 languages.
- Tap the mic key on the keyboard, or the mic in Notes, and speak.
Common questions
Which languages are supported?
The keyboard supports 23 languages: Hindi, Bangla, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Urdu, Odia, Malayalam, Punjabi, Assamese, Maithili, Kashmiri, Nepali, Sindhi, Konkani, Meitei (Manipuri), Bodo, Sanskrit, Sinhala, Dogri, and Santali. Dictation supports 22 of them.
Does Akshar work offline?
Yes. Both transliteration and dictation run entirely on your iPhone. No internet needed after first setup.
Does Akshar send my text or voice anywhere?
No. Nothing you type or say leaves your device. iCloud sync for Notes goes through your own Apple Account, end-to-end encrypted.
How do I turn on iCloud sync?
Open Akshar › the … menu › Settings › iCloud Sync. Your Notes and preferences will sync between your iPhone and iPad.
How do I change the app icon?
Open Akshar › the … menu › App Icon. Pick the script you prefer.
Does Akshar work on Mac?
Yes. Akshar runs on Mac with Apple silicon and supports the same keyboard, dictation, and Notes features.
